IMPACT

Methodology

How to understand these measures and the information behind them.
01 · WHAT WE COUNT

Four Metrics, Defined

Donation value (₩)

WHAT IT MEANS
The value of surplus food and products redirected into donations through MONA.
READING THE FIGURE
The valuation basis matters: retail price, book value and partner-declared value can produce different totals.

Business savings (₩)

WHAT IT MEANS
The storage and disposal costs that business partners save through redistribution.
READING THE FIGURE
Read savings alongside the cost categories included, the comparison period and any programme fees.

People supported

WHAT IT MEANS
The reported number of people supported by redistributed food and products.
READING THE FIGURE
People, meals and deliveries are different measures. Reach figures need a clear counting basis.

Carbon reduction (kg CO₂)

WHAT IT MEANS
The reported reduction in carbon emissions associated with redistributing surplus instead of disposing of it.
READING THE FIGURE
Carbon figures need an emissions factor, a reference disposal scenario and a defined calculation scope.
02 · FROM OPERATIONS TO REPORTING

The Information Behind The Impact

01
Surplus registered
Businesses submit surplus through an online form. Product type, expiry dates, location and recipient needs inform matching.
02
Redistribution managed
MONA manages pickup, weighing, inspection and delivery as part of the redistribution process.
03
Receipt confirmed
Recipient organizations confirm receipt. Photos and feedback may be shared to document the activity.
04
Impact reported
Reporting covers business savings, donation value, people supported and carbon reduction.
03 · READING THE REPORT

04 · INTERPRETING RESULTS

Read Results In Context

Check the reporting period.
Read each result alongside its dates and programme coverage. Cumulative totals and single-project outcomes describe different scopes.
Keep the measures separate.
Donation value describes the goods redistributed. Business savings describe costs avoided. They should not be treated as the same benefit.
Ask for the calculation basis.
For carbon reduction and people supported, request the assumptions and counting rules behind the reported figure.
