MONA has facilitated the redistribution of books worth 40 million won to charities in Seoul and Gyeonggi Province, in collaboration with Korea NVC Publishing (Korean Nonviolent Communication Publishing).
In total, 2,186 books went to 2,186 children, one book per child. The initiative aimed to give individuals and families in need access to educational resources. According to MONA, 10,930 people could benefit indirectly if the books are shared further.
Part of a wider effort
The project is part of MONA's work to reduce waste and support communities. MONA connects businesses holding surplus products, near-expiry items and unused goods with charities and individuals who can use them, and provides impact reports that help businesses show their environmental and social contribution.
At the time, MONA was taking part in the K-Startup Grand Challenge with support from CNTTECH. The programme, supported by the Ministry of SMEs and Startups, the Gyeonggi Center for Creative Economy & Innovation and the Korea Institute of Startup and Entrepreneurship Development, helps global startups do business in Korea. MONA was one of 40 startups selected from 1,716 applicants from 114 countries.
